Selena Gomez is closing the door on one of Los Angeles' most storied celebrity addresses. The singer, actress, and Rare Beauty founder has quietly listed her sprawling Encino estate for $6.49 million — and the property carries more musical history than most concert halls. The gated compound, tucked at the end of a cul-de-sac inside the exclusive Rancho Estates neighborhood, was originally custom-built in 1989 for rock legend Tom Petty and his first wife, Jane Benyo — a commission born out of tragedy after an arsonist burned their previous home to the ground in 1987. Petty owned the property until 2017, just months before his death. Gomez purchased it in March 2020 for roughly $4.9 million, and the home has appreciated quietly ever since. Now, nearly six years later, the property is back on the market — and whoever writes that check inherits a piece of American rock-and-roll folklore wrapped inside 11,400 square feet of contemporary California living. The three-story residence offers six bedrooms and ten bathrooms across three levels. Its skylit living room soars toward a slanted ceiling, anchored by a stone fireplace that climbs through a white-railed mezzanine. The open kitchen — with its whitewashed exposed brick, Viking range, and wood-beamed ceiling — will feel immediately familiar to anyone who followed Gomez's HBO Max cooking series Selena + Chef, which used the space as its backdrop for the first three seasons. Two primary suites offer elevated living on both the main and upper floors. Downstairs, the lower level reads like a private resort: a movie theater with a conversation pit, a wine cellar, a gym, a massage room, a sauna, a glam room, a secondary kitchen, a creative workspace, and a vocal booth believed to be a remnant of Petty's original recording studio. Gomez is said to have used it herself. Outdoors, the nearly one-acre grounds deliver in full. A cascading rock waterfall feeds into a raised spa and freeform pool below, surrounded by a stone patio. The reason for the move is straightforward: Gomez and her husband, music producer Benny Blanco, have already planted their flag elsewhere. In December 2024 — the same week they got engaged over a Taco Bell picnic — the couple closed on a $35 million Spanish-style Beverly Hills mansion designed by architect Wallace Neff circa 1928 and previously owned by director Todd Phillips. The off-market transaction ranked among the priciest deals in the area that year. The Beverly Hills estate includes a main residence, two separate guesthouses, a studio, a glass greenhouse solarium, and lush landscaping wrapped around a sophisticated stone-floored pool. Blanco has been consolidating his own holdings as well. He recently sold his longtime Chelsea, Manhattan bachelor pad for $3.6 million, and his Malibu beachfront home was lost to the Palisades Fire in early 2025. He still holds a Hollywood Hills estate acquired from Tinder cofounder Sean Rad in 2020 for $9.9 million. For Gomez, the Encino listing does not represent a full retreat from the area. She retains a $1.7 million property in Woodland Hills currently occupied by her mother and stepfather. At 33, Gomez enters this chapter with a portfolio reflecting both personal growth and calculated transition. Between building Rare Beauty into a billion-dollar enterprise, completing a forthcoming book project, and settling into newlywed life, the Encino listing is less about letting go and more about moving forward — deliberately, and at scale.
